Languedoc is a common "dit name," or nickname attached to the end of their surname, used by 17th century French soldiers who came to Quebec from the French province of Languedoc. Over the generations, it is often shortened, e.g. Longdo, replacing the original surname "LaCoste dit Languedoc."
